Abstract

iServer offers organisations a powerful, collaborative Enterprise Architecture (EA) and business process modelling suite that leverages existing investment in Microsoft technologies. It delivers a highly-scalable repository-based environment for combining Microsoft Visio (Visio) and Office documents used in the domain areas of enterprise architecture (EA). The iServer Publisher allows any user to collaborate on HTML versions of business models without the need for specialist training, access to Visio or Office, and at a relatively low cost. The shared repository for Visio and Office 'objects' enables the enforcement of standards, version control, impact analysis, and reuse at the shape or document-component level. iServer offers highly costeffective, new model development with the adoption and reuse of existing models created using familiar Microsoft products, and this reduces training needs. iServer combines and extends the functions of Visio, SQL Server and an Internet browser, also utilising the document management capabilities of Microsoft SharePoint to enable collaboration and control synchronisation. The Orbus approach is distinctly different from other proprietary tools in that it allows organisations to exploit investment in existing technologies, whilst delivering functionality that would normally be found in high-end modelling products. It should be considered by any organisation using Microsoft solutions in the modelling of EA or business processes.
