BPMN - Business Process Modeling Notation

Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) is a generic
world-wide industry standard of graphical notation
for representing business process workflows.

    Worldwide Industry Standard

Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) is a generic world-wide industry standard of graphical notation for representing business process workflows.

It shows the beginning-to-end flow of a business process, such as a "Create and Activate Bank Account" process.

Orbus has created a BPMN template for use with either Visio 2003, 2007 and 2010, which has been integrated within a Business Process Repository, using a preferred framework such as APQC, eTOM, SCOR, etc.

History of BPMN BPMN Process Diagram Example

The BPMN 1.0 specification was released to the public in May, 2004. This specification represented more than two years of effort by the BPMI Notation Working Group.

The primary goal of the BPMN effort was to provide a notation that is readily understandable by all business users, from the business analysts that create the initial drafts of the processes, to the technical developers responsible for implementing the technology that will perform those processes, and finally, to the business people who will manage and monitor those processes.

BPMN is constantly being revised, having progressed through v1.0 to 1.1 to 1.2 and now 2.0. BPMN Version 2.0 is the latest publically released specification from the Object Management Group (OMG). BPMN is currently adopted by a large proportion of businesses worldwide, and the number is growing rapidly.

The full specification can be found on the OMG BPMN website at www.bpmn.org

Further Information on the iServer 2011 Product Range for Business Process Analysis

Using the BPMN 2.0 Models in iServer, process elements can be shown differently on different diagrams according to their interactions, attributes (such as process criticality, cost). On top of this, analysis tools in iServer allow modellers and analysts to generate reports such as RACI matrices.
