TOGAF® 9 Customer Case Study - The Met Office

UK Meteorological Office - iServer Selected to Reduce TOGAF® Start-up Time

As a result of a comprehensive ITT, iServer from Orbus Software was selected as the tool of choice for the Met Office Enterprise Architecture initiative, along with the TOGAF® 9 "Out of the Box" solution. The selection decision was based on iServer's ease of use (staying within the familiarity of Office and Visio), support for the TOGAF® required content and functionality, and the low price point.

TOGAF® Case Study Overview

The following case study, developed by the Lead Enterprise Architect at the Met Office, highlights some of the challenges faced whilst establishing an Enterprise Architecture practice. It also illustrates the importance of using a shared repository and pre-configured solutions to minimise distractions and concentrate effort on showing the value of Architecture to the wider business.  Presented at the Gartner EA Conference in 2009, the case study received positive feedback from organizations at the beginning in their EA journey wishing to smooth their project start-up.

Met Office Case Study Introduction

"EA Adoption with TOGAF® 9 and an Architecture Repository - Unfinished Business"

A presentation that aims to expose the raw challenges of setting up an effective Enterprise Architecture practice based on our experiences at the Met Office in the hope that they resonate with other organizations in the early stage of EA adoption.

We focus on the need to adapt the goals and behavior of the architecture practice to remain relevant to the business in the current challenging economic environment.

Whilst we are yet to achieve maturity in our architecture practice, we look to share the insights gained over the past 12 months including the importance of underpinning the architecture effort with a shared repository and the usage of TOGAF® 9.
