Application Rationalization
Application rationalization, an intermediate step within
application portfolio management, addresses low-value applications
from a business point of view. Using objective measures, it
identifies the under-performing assets within the application
portfolio and, depending on their situation, restores them to
profitability or decommissions them to save funds and free
resources.
Application rationalization can include taking action
based on:
- Ageing assets
- Redundant functionality
- Disparate and incompatible applications
- Non-core functions
- Non-core technologies
To support application rationalization activities, Orbus has
created a highly functional set of templates, aligned with their
TOGAF® "Out-of-ohe-box" solution. The application landscape
template gives a time-based view of the desired application
landscape.

Application landscape rationalization - 'reduce
application footprint by x%; move towards Oracle application suite
by 2015'
Combining this view with iServer's ability to visualize impact
of change - other aspects of application rationalization such as
identifying redundant functionality (by mapping functional areas
directly to the application portfolio), provides an invaluable way
to perform application rationalization.
