Architecture Roadmaps
An Architecture Roadmap is an ordered sequence of initiatives
that are required in order to make the transition from the current
architecture baseline to the future target state. Roadmaps are an
extremely common diagram for showing the lifecycle of applications,
projects and other components within an organization. These are
often created manually, and as a result, take up valuable resources
that could be effectively utilized elsewhere.
Orbus has created a highly functional set of templates for
visualizing any of the above using 'Start' and 'End' dates, which
are collected against the entities, stored in a single central
repository. The'Timeline' template can be combined with elements
such as 'Application Status', which links it into the Application
Rationalization domain of identifying core/non-core applications
and allows colour coding or 'heatmaps' to be generated
dynamically.

Generating roadmaps in iServer can be automated by synchronizing
start/end, creation/retirement dates via iServer's data import
functionality - data sources could be Excel spreadsheets and XML
files which are stored in disparate locations. When dates change,
the visualization updates automatically, saving on manual
effort.
