The story of why Cathay Pacific selected iServer for a Strategic Architecture Initiative and the resulting benefits seen

Cathay Pacific Airways, the international passenger and cargo airline and home carrier of Hong Kong, wanted IT to transform and become a strategic business partner. As of 2009, the federated organization structure created inefficiencies in delivery and prevented long-term enterprise IT planning. The cyclical nature of the industry required long term planning and diligent cost control. The need for a strong architecture process, a clear vision for the future and the path to achieve it were evident.

The company selected Orbus Software’s iServer as its Architecture Repository tool for this initiative, to rebuild the architecture function as part of the reorganized IT department.

As our Architecture Practice continues to improve and deliver, we are looking to iServer to help further mature our practice by enabling infrastructure design, architecture standards definition and use, road mapping and transition states, SOA modeling as well as to help us calculate and improve enterprise debt.

Steep learning curve for immature EA programs, but a great tool if you invest the time

Great pre-sales review of the product and functionality. Installation was simple and straightforward. Included training modules were helpful. Ramp up time for basic functionality was short, but more complex features and functions took a while to figure out, even with instructor-led training. Use of Office tools made the learning curve a little easier to manage.
