About the Course

This fully-accredited course provides students with insight into the principles, objectives, processes, methods, and functions within the SOA framework. Learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of the functions of SOA, along with key technology and implementation considerations.

On passing the certification exam, professionals will be awarded four credit units to go towards sitting the ‘Managing Across the Lifecycle (MALC)’ exam. Passing this will enable them to obtain the ‘ITIL Expert’ qualification.

Course Outline

Module 1: An Introduction to Service Offerings and Agreements
This module examines ‘Capacity Management’, including its concepts and principles, as well as the activities involved. It also covers the purpose, scope, and objectives of IT strategy management and design coordination.

Module 2: Service Portfolio Management
This module explores the scope of ‘Service Portfolio Management’, along with its objectives and role in generating business value. The principles, activities, and concepts of Service Portfolio Management are examined in the context of SOA practices.

Module 3: Service Catalog Management
This module examines ‘Service Catalog Management’ and its importance to business value. Service Catalog Management activities, methods, and techniques are explored in relation to ITIL SOA.

Module 4: Service Level Management
‘Service Level Management’ and its contribution to SOA are covered in this module. The role of SLM as a generator of business value is described in the context of its objectives, scope, and importance. The details of SLM, including activities and principles, are then explored in relation to SOA practices. SLA structures and service level requirements are also examined.

Module 5: Demand Management
This module explores ‘Demand Management’ and its contribution to business value. It covers the policies, principles, and concepts of Demand Management and how they relate to SOA.

Module 6: Supplier Management
This module explores the objectives, scope, and importance of ‘Supplier Management’ and its contribution to business value. It covers the policies, principles, and concepts of Supplier Management and how they relate to SOA. It also examines Supplier Management in the context of the Service Lifecycle.

The module also explores supplier evaluation and categorization, as well as the maintenance of the Supplier and Contract Database.

Module 7: Financial Management
This module explores the objectives, scope, and importance of ‘Financial Management’ and its contribution to business value. Financial Management concepts such as accounting, budgeting, and charging are explained in the context of SOA.

Module 8: Business Relationship Management
This module explores the objectives, scope, and importance of ‘Business Relationship Management’ and its contribution to business value. It covers the policies, principles, and concepts of Business Relationship Management and how they relate to SOA. The module also examines the efficient use of Business Relationship Management metrics.

Module 9: SOA Roles and Responsibilities
This module describes in detail the key roles and responsibilities of each of the ITIL SOA processes.

Module 10: Technology and Implementation Considerations
This module explores the technology and implementation considerations of SOA. It gives an overview of each lifecycle stage in relation to implementing ITIL processes and practices:

  • Service Design - Identifying good practice and evaluation criteria for technology and tools
  • Service Operation - Planning and implementing technology support
  • Service Transition - The challenges, risks, and critical success factors of implementing practices and processes

Module 11: Exam Preparation
This module goes over the key points of the course to help students prepare for the ITIL Service Offerings and Agreements exam.

Assessment

The course includes a FREE exam voucher for the ITIL Service Transition examination. This can be taken virtually online, using a service provided by PeopleCert.

  • A complex multiple-choice exam with eight scenario-based questions
  • 90 minutes (additional time will be available if English is not your first language)
  • Pass mark is 70% or 28/40
  • Closed-book
  • Earn three ITIL credits on successfully passing
