Solution Architecture Features

iServer allows you to develop baseline architectures and manage requirements, all from a single location, and by supporting notations such as UML, iServer can be used to help develop use cases and visualize the architecture.

iServer supports the development of end-to-end solution architectures by providing a holistic understanding of the various components required to implement a solution. It provides a number of features, tools and dashboards for supporting activities such as deployment and retirement planning through roadmaps, change impact heatmaps, capability assessments and gap analysis.

Templates & Models for Strategic Guidance

With fast-paced technological change, it is essential that architects are able to visualize and govern the entire solution landscape of a project. iServer offers a wide range of templates to enable the successful development of the desired solution architecture. For instance, iServer’s ‘Conceptual Solution Architecture’ diagram provides a high level orientation of the solution that is envisaged in order to meet the objectives of the architecture engagement. It can embody key objectives, requirements, constraints for engagement, and also highlight work areas to be investigated in more detail with formal architecture modeling. Solution architects may also consult the ‘Project Requirements View’, which produces a list of the requirements, highlighting attributes such as type, priority according to the MoSCoW method, owner etc.

Views & Dashboards

Access to a lot of information is just half of the story. In order to derive benefits from it you need to be able to make sense of it. What’s more, in today’s market it is becoming increasingly difficult to filter what is useful from what isn’t due to the data flood users experience every day. iServer’s answer is a powerful views and dashboards system that will cut through the noise, bringing you the valuable insights your company requires to remain competitive. Users have three types of views at their disposal in iServer – List, Hierarchy and Matrix. These allow users to navigate through content quickly and effectively.

Solution architecture often encompasses many different architecture layers or viewpoints, such as business architecture, system architecture and data architecture. The solutions architect’s role is responsible for developing architectural solutions for documenting and implementing business change initiatives. This role is often required to interpret business and technical requirements into best practice architectures, which ensure integration with the rest of the organization and existing systems. The dashboards that are available in iServer can help with this. They help users instantly communicate a high amount of information to desired stakeholders by combining data from several areas of interest in order to provide as much context as possible. By adding to these capabilities an advanced searching and filtering system, you get a platform for solution architecture that will undoubtedly provide a lot of utility to the EA department, and a great deal of value to the enterprise as well.

Framework Preconfigured Solution

Because we want you to start delivering value for your organization as quickly as possible, iServer can be provided to you preconfigured with your framework of choice. iServer’s central repository provides support for a wide range of EA frameworks and standards, including the Zachman Framework, MODAF, TOGAF ® and ArchiMate for the development of baseline architectures. The repository can be structured around the TOGAF ® Architecture Development Method (ADM) to enable easy reference and documentation. Other features in the repository include versioning control for the design and transitioning of the architectures, administrative settings and user profiles for ensuring security controls, and a validation rule engine for ensuring consistency of architecture models. iServer also provides an environment for capability-based planning to help solution architects understand and map the capabilities required to support an initiative.

Online Publishing

The scale of a modern enterprise often interferes with people’s ability to connect on business grounds. It can be quite difficult to keep everyone updated about the progress of a project in order to ensure their continued support, something that can be the difference between success and failure with many initiatives.

iServer’s communication modules enable teams to communicate with ease. These modules are important reporting, publishing and presentation tools, and they let architects easily share their repository models and documentation with an unlimited number of business actors across the organization, as well as gather valuable, structured feedback. Using iServer’s range of communication tools, solution architects are able to ensure that their stakeholders understand the different aspects of a complex architecture. This enables alignment with strategic goals and objectives, and helps stakeholders to make better investment decisions.

Impact & Dependency Analysis

iServer’s Impact Analysis Visualization tool provides solution architecture views and dashboards that enable users to accurately assess the consequences of changing elements of the architecture. Using up to date information to support a number of functions such as integrated reporting, cross-domain analysis, as well as decision analysis. Impact analysis visualizations are useful with identifying what version of a solution is best by determining how changes to it work out in the larger organizational picture. The tool is a great asset in any solution architecture initiative, and it ensures the optimum result is achieved in the end.

Advanced Document Management

Users of iServer benefit greatly from the platform’s full integration with the Microsoft Office suite. It can also handle formats ranging from AVIs and JPEGs, to PDFs and MPEGs. This means information can be documented and managed enterprise wide within a familiar environment, rather than existing spread out across multiple isolated locations. Users can also create, import and link documents to an object within the central repository, and additionally, the solution features a tagging function. Tagging provides another simple way of categorizing repository content.
