Product Overview
iServer is an enterprise architecture
repository and collaborative modeling tool for Microsoft Office and
Visio users, where models, documents, Visio shapes (such as
processes, applications, technology components, organizational
units) and Office document components (such as requirements or
principles) are managed as repository objects (artifacts and
architecture building blocks).
Organizations beginning to engage in enterprise architecture
often have limited tool choice and Microsoft Office is normally
seen as the only suitable solution. Traditional EA tools are
available but are often too expensive, difficult to adopt and
require a significant investment in training in order to produce a
return - a level of financial and cultural commitment organizations
are unwilling or unable to make when the value of enterprise
architecture is still in question.
In the early maturity stages a lot of structural planning work
needs to be done and implementation decisions have to be made on
the scope of the EA work, what method(s) to use, how to set up a
governance structure to roll-out, enforce and encourage the benefit
and necessity of controlling and setting the direction of
architecture within the business.
In addition to the planning issues, very few organizations are
green field sites. Potential EA information and models already
exist (largely as MS Office / Visio documents) but are often hard
to find (held on local machines, in file shares), organize,
disseminate and analyze in order to identify valuable EA artifacts
without a repository based environment to help. Repository tools
are required but traditional EA tools are not deemed as appropriate
or cost-justifiable.
