Asynchronous Process

In an asynchronous process, an activity sends a message to another process, but does not wait for a response before continuing.

To illustrate, a phone call to another person is a synchronous process - it can't go forward if the person you want to talk to doesn't answer the phone, however leaving a message on an answering machine turns it into an asynchronous process.
