iServer support for FEAF

feaf

The Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework version 2 (or simply FEAF) is a framework comprising a set of interconnected, service-based reference models. It was designed to help federal agencies to implement the Common Approach to Federal Enterprise Architecture, which was launched in 2012. FEAF provides a methodology along with a collection of tools which when used throughout the entire structure of the federal government should yield benefits such as:

  • provide a common approach for IT acquisition
  • facilitate the sharing of information and resources
  • reduce costs
  • and improve citizen services

At the heart of the FEAF is the Consolidated Reference Model (or CRM), which helps federal agencies define and analyze investments. The CRM is made up of six interrelated reference models describing the framework’s sub-architecture domains:

  • Performance
  • Business
  • Data
  • Application
  • Infrastructure
  • Security

So, how can iServer help you implement and manage your architecture according to the rules of FEAF? iServer supports the full implementation of FEAF and assists you in a number of ways.

Firstly, the platform fully supports the six reference models that make up the CRM. As a result, abstract specs are transformed into more useful, live reference models. What does this mean for you? You’ll be able to manage, analyze and integrate them with your architectural content in Server's central repository, getting more value out of your content in the process.

Secondly, it’s great for enforcing governance over content creation and metadata management, as well as architecture and processes. How does it achieve this? iServer benefits from a configurable meta-model, which allows you to easily customize it to best serve your needs. What’s more, it also offers great admin capabilities – for instance it lets you limit visibility based on permissions and approval status of artifacts, or even set custom landing pages for different user groups. These all contribute towards successfully implementing FEAF.

Thirdly, as an iServer user you’ll benefit from a first class user experience, with FEAF content brought to life in an easy to understand and visually pleasing manner thanks to a set of diagrams that can illustrate maturity and operationalize each of the six reference models using heat-mapping and roadmaps. Add to this our platform’s minimal deployment time and gentle learning curve and you and your team can be certain you will be able to start making progress immediately.
