Orbus Software Joins Forces with the Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance

Orbus Software & SDIA

London; July 5th 2022: Orbus Software, a leading provider of cloud solutions for digital transformation, has today announced its sponsorship of the Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance (SDIA), a European network that drives collaboration across multiple industries to enable a sustainable digital ecosystem.

As a sponsor, Orbus will help lead SDIA Steering Groups and facilitate the commercial implementation of sustainable solutions. In turn, Orbus will directly contribute to the SDIA Roadmap to a Sustainable Digital Infrastructure by 2030.

Orbus Software will help bring the Roadmap to life by working with companies to provide input, feedback, and support on various Steering Groups. This includes the CO2 Intensity Map for Digital Infrastructure’, in which the SDIA is working to visualize the intensity of the electrons flowing into the digital infrastructure on a given geographical location. This will empower users to make informed decisions on where to store or process their data.

Orbus Software will also help accelerate the Carbon Footprint Framework for Server-side Applications’ Steering Group. This initiative will create the ability for developers to publish the environmental footprint of the software they have built, providing transparency on the climate impact of digital infrastructure.

As part of sponsoring the SDIA and developing these solutions, Orbus Software can later use the frameworks developed to map its own carbon impact. These initiatives will place Orbus at the forefront of sustainability and empower the company to bring real expertise to its customers to ensure their technology operations are more sustainable.

Rupert Colbourne, CTO at Orbus Software, commented:

“Emerging digital technology will shape the future in new and unimaginable ways, and the SDIA is a force for good in ensuring this shift has limited negative impact. At Orbus Software, we understand we have a responsibility to the wider world. By sponsoring the SDIA, we hope to ignite positive and sustainable change for our people, our customers and the overall environmental landscape.”

The news follows Orbus Software’s pledge to become a carbon-neutral company in 2022, by working to offset all of its carbon emissions. Orbus Software’s product and partnerships roadmap will include new capabilities to help customers incorporate sustainability initiatives into their business and technology decisions.

Daan Terpstra, SDIA’s CEO commented:

“Orbus Software is on a sustainability journey and is dedicated to becoming a sustainable thought leader in the digital economy. Being one part of the value chain, Orbus will support us in creating more transparency and defining the carbon footprint of software. The company will also help us shape the development of the methodology and framework for measuring the energy efficiency of software components. By developing these solutions, they will be ahead of the market and will be able to adjust the products ahead of regulations and standards, meaning they are truly shaping sustainable software development.”

Other sponsors of the SDIA include: Vertiv, Vattenfall, ekwb, Bureau, Scaleway and Triplepoint.

About Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance

Established in 2019 and co-based in Germany and the Netherlands, the Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance e.V. (SDIA) is a nonprofit network that aims to drive collaboration across industries to enable a thriving digital ecosystem without negative impacts on the environment through competitive and sustainable digital infrastructure.

With its network of more than 90 members and partners, SDIA works to make the infrastructure powering the digital economy sustainable, while ensuring it remains open and accessible to everyone.

Its Roadmap to Sustainable Digital Infrastructure by 2030 is the primary mechanism that enables all stakeholders from across the value chain to connect, benchmark, and deliver sustainability. It is meant to offer a holistic, systems-thinking approach to solving the challenges facing ICT sustainability, ranging from energy supply and data centers, to fiber-optic networks and software.
