Standards like the Information Security Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) play a critical role in safeguarding data.

An Introduction to the Gartner Pace Layered Application Strategy

Enterprise Architecture May 19, 2023

This eBook offers an insightful introduction into the Gartner Pace Layer, defining the criteria used to categorize applications, along with suggested steps for your organization to successfully implement this methodology.

The development of the Pace Layer came about as it was discovered that organizations were using a ‘one size fits all’ approach to their Application Portfolio Management (APM) - commonly applying the same investment strategy and governance approach to all applications regardless of their scope or usage.

Subsequently, Gartner took the lead and introduced the Pace Layer, a concept suggesting that different types of system requires different IT governance strategies which may range from strict control for systems of record through to ad-hoc for systems of innovation.

The Gartner Pace Layer can offer organizations a way to categorize applications, therefore feeding into decision-making in a number of areas. Provided the technique is rigorously applied, this should lead to a multitude of benefits.
