The Challenge
In 2017, the Department of IT (DIT) was tasked with establishing an enterprise architecture for the state while managing a custom-developed Application Portfolio Management (APM) repository. To support this effort, the department adopted Orbus iServer, which provided a foundation for managing their IT portfolio. However, the department needed a solution that could offer a more unified and integrated approach to IT portfolio management as their needs grew.
The Solution
In 2023, the DIT migrated to OrbusInfinity, a cloud-native platform offering enhanced functionality, scalability, and seamless integration. This transition built upon their existing foundation with iServer, enabling a more cohesive approach to IT portfolio management. The new platform allowed the department to leverage APIs for automated data updates and use out-of-the-box dashboards for improved reporting and decision-making.
The migration offered several key advantages:
- Enhanced functionality: OrbusInfinity expanded beyond application management, integrating business, data, and technology elements.
- Scalability and flexibility: The cloud-native design allowed seamless scaling to accommodate growing data and integration needs.
- Continuity of service: The transition to OrbusInfinity was smooth, with no disruption to ongoing business services.
The Result
Since adopting Orbus iServer and transitioning to OrbusInfinity, the DIT has seen remarkable improvements in its IT portfolio management process.
- Increased efficiency: Automated workflows reduced manual data entry by 60%, freeing up time for higher-value tasks.
- Enhanced reporting and transparency: Interactive Power BI dashboards replaced static reports, improving accessibility for leadership.
- Stronger collaboration: The platform facilitated data sharing across agencies, connecting application data with broader IT initiatives.
